The museum under assembly is an exhibition of an ongoing series of photographs about the Berardo Collection by Rodrigo Bettencourt da Câmara. They record the process of putting together exhibitions at the Museu Coleção Berardo (some of them current), as well as the moving of works for loans and touring exhibitions, over a time span which stretches from 2004 to the present day. [...]

Thus they are images that question the presence of art, its visual construction in the context of an exhibition. They attempt to somehow investigate this small performance that precedes the public opening of an exhibition, composed of the numerous careful processes of selection, indecision and trial and error involved in its installation. It is also composed of carpentry, lighting adjustments, temporary walls, lorries and trucks, an entire apparatus which will end up disappearing behind finishes, clearing up, rearranging, behind the very works that are exhibited. Showing the implicit mechanisms of the creation of aesthetic value in their unfinished state – and deferring the moment in which the work is positioned and exhibited as such – these images highlight the constructed (and considered) nature of the place of art. It implies a confrontation between the absent space inherent to the placing of art in a museum – a space which is withdrawn in the presence of the works, which allows them to breathe without background noise – and their physical making.
