Opening of the exhibition Pieter Hugo. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

Opening of the exhibition Pieter Hugo. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
04/07/2018
Body:

Pieter Hugo (Johannesburg, 1976) is a photographic artist who has witnessed the end of apartheid, in 1994. His interest is to capture contemporary societies' social dissonances and extreme vulnerability.

It is through his gaze—which he directs back to us—that he intends us to observe the present/past as a starting point for a deeper reflection on what we would like our future to hold. He does so in an absolutely remarkable way, revealing immense sensibility and consideration: Hugo portrays people in extremely fragile situations without sacrificing their dignity or identity, and he proves to us that human beings are capable of retaining their strength even in cases of utmost adversity.

An exhibition of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg.

His Excellency the Portuguese Minister for Culture will grant us the honour of his presence.
