Triomphe du Doute
Date 1942
Medium Indian ink on paper
Dimensions 50 x 65 cm
Inventory ID UID 102-75
This large drawing from 1942, characteristic of the figures drawn by Victor Brauner at this time, may be related to a painting of the same title dated 1946 (oil, ink and wax on canvas, private collection). The woman with two heads, one of which, on the right-hand side, is elongated, is exactly the same except for the pillows on which she is leaning and the ‘Egyptian’ mirror she is holding in her right hand. In contrast, the left-hand side is occupied by a disjointed woman whose stylisation recalls Egyptian paintings. The landscape, showing a temple in the background, disappears. It is not possible to go any further in the explanation of these works.
