The presence of the words desdobramento (unfolding) and intersecção (intersection) in the title is a sign of the painter's development. The naturalist theme is less significant. On the one hand, it is not known whether the title Pelas Janelas [Through the Windows] was conceived by the painter. Although this title appears in the catalogue raisonné, the painter's inscription on the back of the canvas says only “Desdobramento – Intersecção”. The geometric shape in the foreground is not a realistic representation of a window. Rather than windows, the work depicts a series of planes in space, of openings to the exterior. AC
