Carla Filipe. da cauda à cabeça
Carla Filipe was born in a C.P. house (a house provided by the Portuguese railway company to their employees) in a small locality named Póvoa do Valado in the district of Aveiro, Portugal. She lives and works in the city of Porto, where she did her studies. From 2003 to 2007, she helped organise activities at two artist-run projects in Porto – Salão Olímpico and Projecto Apêndice. This was an intense period for independent art spaces in the city and it was there that Carla Filipe developed her work. In 2009, she won a scholarship from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian for a residency at ACME Studios (London). In 2014, Carla Filipe will take up a residency at the invitation of the AIR Antwerpen project (Antwerp).

Among various publications, Carla Filipe has edited As primas da Bulgária (Kunsthalle Lissabon, Lisbon) and Boletim CP (Editorial Concreta, Valencia) in 2013, and An illustrated guide to the British Railway to my study (author’s edition) in 2010. There is also da cauda à cabeça, the first monograph dedicated to the artist’s work (Museu Coleção Berardo and Archive Books, 2014).
