Gérald Bloncourt. Por uma vida melhor
The photographs of Gérald Bloncourt displayed here recount a difficult period of Portuguese history: the emigration of almost one million people, officially or clandestinely, towards France.
An exile himself, having been expelled from Haiti where he lived with his parents, Gérald Bloncourt (born in 1926) has always been particularly sensitive to the suffering of the foreigner in a country that is not his own. Correspondent for the magazine La Vie ouvrière and the daily newspaper L’Humanité, he has worked with and about the Portuguese community, weaving ties with the workers who allowed him to share their daily life. His photographs are an irreplaceable witness of what the 1950s and 60s were for all those dismembered families [...].
