In light of a new edition of Ernesto de Sousa’s essay “Graphic Arts, Vehicle of Intimacy” as featured in the exhibition catalogue for your body is my body — o teu corpo é o meu corpo. Ernesto de Sousa poster collection, a series of discussions and events is being presented. Fostering a debate on artistic practice as being "entwined with life", this series encourages the celebration, the communion and the redefinition of social and political paradigms, thus transforming space and language. It is in the critical and continual debate on issues of learning, mediation, and dialectics within artistic creation that the idea of art as "vehicle of intimacy" emerges, through the voice and the actions of contemporary “aesthetics operators”, to revisit the fundamental issues in Ernesto de Sousa’s research.
The overarching span of themes appearing in the exhibition evoke an undisciplined reflection on different areas of artistic practice today which contribute to the discussion of its own paradigms, through the manner in which they relate to the work of the artist/collector, and the militancy with which they include this same questioning in their practice.
The two-day programme will prompt new interpretations — for today — of "Graphic Arts, Vehicle of Intimacy" through the "new actions" of Rui Catalão, Hugo Canoilas, Susana Gaudêncio, Patrícia Portela, Paulo Mendes, Liliana Coutinho, Dois Dias Edições (Sofia Gonçalves and Rui Paiva) and O Homem do Saco.

Susana Gaudêncio with Tomás de Fonseca, Diogo Cavaleiro, Eva Prudêncio and Duarte Bénard da Costa
Following a selection process, collective narratives will be developed for specific posters, expanding on meanings and creating the conditions for a reflection that allows new encounters with the objects, translated in Repertório — a printed script that records this new content.

Guided tour of the exhibition, during which the stories behind some of the posters are told and commented upon, weaving a fiction that creates a “collage" of a "lifetime".

Jeffrey goes to Belém
Hugo Canoilas
A character based on a real person, Jeffrey is an auteur-film programmer who flits between squats in Amsterdam. He will operate directly within the exhibition space by addressing the public, using Ernesto de Sousa's text “Graphic Arts, Vehicle of Intimacy” as a basis for a series of reflections on the present.

Gustavo Ciríaco with Vinícius Ladeira, Bruno Silva, Teresa Costa, Sara Zita Correia, Teresa Pinheiro, Sofia Murteira, and Rita Rebelo de Andrade.
Taking Ernesto de Sousa's work as an inspiration and a prompt, the workshop No meio daquilo que vemos promotes the creation of site-specific projects, fostering an awareness of the museum spaces by using the graphic composition principles seen in the posters in his collection.

Paulo Mendes with Luisa Guedes, Tiago Lima, Fávio Duarte, Rui Montoya, and Rúben Carvalho.
Resulting from work in collaboration with unemployed residents of the Bairro 2 de Maio neighbourhood, this ephemeral action pits the immobility of the museum against the organic and dynamic community that surrounds it.

This journey through the exhibition in conjunction with a reading of the essay “Graphic Arts, Vehicle of Intimacy” is an attempt to understand how Ernesto de Sousa adopts the philosophical theme of the death of art, not as an absolute end, but as the dissemination of the everyday aesthetic experience, which is mirrored in his choices as a collector and the affinity he establishes with his peers.

Poster workshop — Homem do Saco makes posters in full view
O Homem do Saco
Using a press, ink, and types, the Homem do Saco team will enlist the help of visitors to print large posters with quotes by Ernesto de Sousa on his relationship with the graphic arts.
